This project began with a simple request. Our client, Vivek Subramanian, approached us after the successful completion of his office interiors for Fourth Partner Energy in Hyderabad. Living with his family in an apartment in the city's tech hub of Madhapur, he initially asked for 'just a nice washroom' — a space to begin his mornings with the same sense of enjoyment he experienced at his new workplace. What began as a single bathroom commission soon evolved into a complete redesign of the family's home. The family are avid collectors of art and craft — some created by Geeta herself, others gathered on travels — and frequent hosts in their neighborhood community. To reflect this lifestyle, the dining space became the heart of the apartment: a place for daily meals, remote work, painting, and lively gatherings.

To support this way of life, the kitchen was re-planned as a larger, integrated space, with added natural light and ventilation. A breakfast counter was introduced to serve as an additional workspace and a casual dining spot, ensuring the kitchen could adapt flexibly to the family's needs. Spatial reconfigurations included carving a new bedroom entrance through the prayer room, which itself was reimagined with a raised wooden floor. This platform now serves multiple roles — a Puja area, a yoga deck, and a social stage during gatherings. The master bedroom was given a large awning window, becoming a bay window and an extra seat.

Materials and crafted details shape the apartment's identity. Wooden strips frame artworks in a continuous 'exhibition wall.' Repurposed Chettinad carved planks define doorways and thresholds, including the entrance, balcony doors, Master window, and an arch supporting a swing. Each bathroom was given a unique character with varied stone finishes, while stained glass by artist Fouzia Ahmed and colored glass inserts animate the interiors. Handmade paper panels enrich the wardrobe doors, adding tactility and presence. The result is a colorful, eclectic, and generous home - one that celebrates art, craft, food, and community as central to everyday life.
