The Bayhauz story in short

Bayhauz is a collaborative, multidisciplinary practice working across architecture, interior design, construction, product design, and art installations. Our projects span office campuses, hospitality ventures, apartments, private residences, and retail spaces, integrating multiple design interests in a single project.

Founded by four colleagues who had worked together in Auroville for nearly four years, Bayhauz has grown into a studio dedicated to creating sustainable, humane, and contextually rooted environments.

The name Bayhauz combines Bay from Bombay with Hauz (water tank in Urdu), reflecting our love for coastal life and our fascination with water-based architecture.

Our head office is in Auroville, with satellite offices in Hyderabad and Mumbai that keep us close to our project sites across India. Collaboration remains central to our process, growing through partnerships with artisans, engineers, and creative practitioners from parallel fields.

Our portfolio

Our portfolio includes projects at many different scales. Alongside residences in cities across India, we are designing in a university campus, an office campus, resorts, retail spas at an airport, and rural homestays in over a hundred villages for the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board.

We also work beyond buildings. Our practice extends into furniture, lamps, exhibitions, sculptures, trophy design, and art installations. At every scale, we approach design as a collaborative process shaping details with carpenters, fabricators, and artisans as carefully as we plan entire sites.

These endeavours engage with local contexts-social, cultural, and ecological while seeking ways to reduce environmental impact. We think of architecture as habitat, where humans and non-humans coexist, and where energy, water, material cycles, and waste are treated as integral parts of design.

Our Studio

Finally, our studio. Our head office in Auroville is an old pottery workshop repurposed into an architecture office. Open on three sides and nestled among trees in a small community near Auroville, the space is an active part of our design process. Studio lunches are a daily ritual—time to break bread, share ideas, and exchange stories from within and beyond the world of design.

Workshops in alternative building materials, printmaking, ceramics, and art are regularly held in and around the studio. These forums nurture the creative culture of Bayhauz and keep the spirit of experimentation alive in our architectural and construction projects.

We also maintain a site office in Hyderabad, based in a co-working space, allowing close coordination with project teams. Together, our studios work in tandem, moving drawings, ideas, and construction forward.
